Philanthropy’s Place in Exit Planning, Jay Steenhuysen

Philanthropy Coach’s curriculum is based on the expertise of philanthropic planner Jay Steenhuysen, whose work with high net worth families during the last twenty years has made him a leading resource in this field. In February 2004, Worth magazine cited Jay, along with Goldman Sachs and Bessemer Trust, as one of three primary resources for high net worth families seeking assistance with philanthropy.

Prior to establishing his own consulting firm, Jay served as Managing Director of Philanthropy Services at my CFO, a financial services firm whose 300+ clients had an average net worth of $125 million. In addition to eighty-two private foundations established by those clients, myCFO managed supporting organizations and operating foundations, as well as charitable remainder trusts for virtually every single client. To these clients, Jay provided philanthropic advice, and in addition, built the myCFO Foundation (a donor advised fund) to over $45 million in less than a year.

Jay will explore specific examples of philanthropy’s role in the life of a business owner while running the business, at the point of sale, and after the sale.  He will also cover philanthropic talking points that can encourage an owner to relinquish control or sell the business when appropriate.
